Went out around nine. The café from yesterday was closed. Found another one on Gardenia near the plaza in La Crucecita. Ordered a flat white. Sixty pesos. The machine took a while. She brought it to a table outside, no counter. I sat in the shade and drank it. It was average. Walked down toward the market after. The Mercado Municipal was open but not busy. A few stalls with fruit, fish on ice, a woman selling nopales. I stopped at a stall near the entrance. Huevos con jamón, tortillas, salsa. Forty pesos. Ate standing next to the counter. She refilled the salsa without asking. Back through the grid. The streets were hot by eleven. Bought a nieve from a cart on the corner. Limón. Twenty pesos. It melted faster than I could finish. Back to the room by noon. Lay down with the fan on and the window open. Someone's television through the wall. I did not sleep. Around three I went out again. Walked down to Santa Cruz bay. The water was flat. A boat was tied up near the pier. A man sold hats from a tarp near the road. I did not buy one. There was a fish stand near the harbor. Ordered a fillet with rice and salsa. Eighty pesos. Ate at a plastic table. A dog sat next to me. I did not give it anything. Walked back to La Crucecita as the light started to go. Stopped at a shop on Bugambilia and bought water. Fifteen pesos. The guesthouse man was sweeping the stairs when I came back. He nodded. I nodded back. I looked at the book once before I put the phone down. The averages did not give a lot large enough.
