Shaved this morning. The razor is getting dull. I will need to replace the blade. Walked out around eight. Ordered a flat white at La Selva. Sixty-five pesos. The milk was warm. I drank it standing in the courtyard. Walked north through the grid. Stopped at a hostel on Francisco León. The common room was open. A shelf of paperbacks near the window. Someone had left a copy of *The Sheltering Sky*. The spine was broken. I left twenty pesos on the shelf and walked out with it. Bought bread from a bakery on Insurgentes. Two conchas. Twenty-five pesos. Ate them on a bench near the andador. The jacket came off around eleven. Back to the guesthouse by noon. Lay down and started the book. Read for an hour. I could hear someone talking in the street. Bought a bowl of pozole at one of the comedores in the mercado. Fifty pesos. The broth was red. A woman across from me was feeding a child. Stopped at a tienda on Real de Mexicanos and bought water. Ten pesos. The window is open. I can hear a radio from somewhere.
