Walked out around eight. The air was cold. I put the jacket on. Stopped at Café La Selva on Crescencio Rosas. Courtyard. Ordered a flat white. Sixty-five pesos. She brought it in a white cup. The milk was warm, not steamed. I stood near the counter and drank it. Not the one. Stopped at Mercado José Castillo Tielemans around ten. Fruit at the entrance. A woman was making quesadillas on a comal. I stopped and ordered one. Queso and flor de calabaza. Thirty pesos. She wrapped it in paper and I ate it near the entrance. Walked back through Santo Domingo. The church was open. I went in for a minute. Cold inside. I sat for a minute and then left. The guesthouse by noon. I lay down and read. The fan was not on. I could hear someone sweeping the street. Stopped at a tienda on Insurgentes and bought water. Fifteen pesos. Walked the andador. Paid for another night at the guesthouse. Two hundred pesos. Went out around six. Found a taco stand on Ejército Nacional. Carne asada. Three tacos, forty-five pesos. Ate standing. A dog followed me for half a block and then stopped. The window is open. Someone is playing music from a window across the street.
